When traveling for work during pregnancy, balancing professional responsibilities with personal health can be challenging. Here’s how I managed it:

Confirm with Your Doctor: Before embarking on any work trips, ensure that traveling is safe for you and your baby. Your doctor can provide personalized advice and address any concerns.

General Recommendations: Many healthcare providers recommend limiting travel after the 36th week of pregnancy. This is partly due to the risk of preterm labor and the potential need for immediate medical attention.

Travel Comfort and Safety: Consider stopping travel earlier if you experience complications, discomfort, or if travel becomes physically challenging. Each pregnancy is unique, so it’s crucial to listen to your body and adjust accordingly.

Travel Type: If your work requires frequent long-haul flights or travel to areas with limited medical facilities, you might want to stop traveling earlier than the 36th week for added safety.

Seat Selection: Choose a seat that allows for comfort and convenience. An aisle seat is ideal for easy access to the bathroom and stretching your legs during long flights.

Wear Compression Socks: I found that wearing compression socks, like my favorite Bombas, significantly helped with circulation and reduced swelling during flights.

Navigate Drinking Situations: On my first work trip while pregnant, my team was unaware of my pregnancy, so I strategically limited my alcohol consumption. It’s perfectly okay to set boundaries around drinking and to choose non-alcoholic options when needed.

Set Boundaries Around Travel: It’s essential to establish and communicate boundaries regarding your travel plans and physical limits. This helps in managing your workload and maintaining your well-being.

Last, but arguably most important Bring Snacks: Pregnancy can increase your appetite and change your cravings, so packing healthy snacks can help keep your energy levels up and manage any sudden hunger or nausea. LMNT is my go to hydration, while I love these CLIF Nut Butter Bars (gluten free) for quick energy.

Traveling while pregnant requires thoughtful planning and self-care, but with these strategies, you can navigate work trips more comfortably and confidently.
