When I was 8 weeks pregnant, I took a trip to Peru for my best friend’s 40th birthday celebration. Despite knowing it was relatively low risk, I still made sure to get permission from my doctor before traveling. It’s essential to check travel guidelines and airline policies, as some airlines have restrictions on flying past a certain point in pregnancy.

Here are some tips and tricks that helped me manage the journey:

  • Consult Your Doctor: Always get medical approval before traveling while pregnant to ensure it’s safe for you and your baby.
  • Check Airline Policies: Different airlines have varying rules regarding pregnant travelers, so it’s crucial to verify their guidelines before booking your flight.
  • Seat Selection: Opt for an aisle seat when flying. It offers easier access for bathroom breaks and allows you to stretch your legs more comfortably.
  • Wear Compression Socks: I wore my favorite Bombas compression socks, which helped with circulation and kept my legs feeling great during the flight.
  • Manage Sensitivities: Pregnancy can heighten your sensitivity to smells, so bring along some mints or essential oils to help manage any discomfort.
  • Know Your Limits: Listen to your body and don’t push yourself too hard. It’s important to respect your limits and take breaks as needed.

During our time hiking around Machu Picchu, I took a slow and steady approach. The altitude and physical exertion required a bit more caution, but the experience was unforgettable and worth every moment.
